Illuminae (The Illuminae Files 01) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Saturday, February 13, 2016

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again. (Goodreads)

What did I think?

This wasn’t just a book. This was an experience. I fell in love with the cover of Illuminae right before it was actually released. I did not know or care, what the book was going to be about. I just needed it for the amazing cover.  So the only thing I knew going into this was that it was a science fiction story. Only around seventy pages in and I knew this book was going to get five stars from me. I kept finding myself having to put it down for a couple of moments just to let everything sink in. I also found myself repeatedly saying “holy shit”. Halfway through the book,  I began to become upset that the next in the series does not come out until October. I need that book immediately. Oh, and do not get me started at how amazing and unique the format of this book is. Illuminae is definitely one you need to get the physical copy of. I have never read a book like this before and I really hope that the next book keeps the same style.
